Sir Robert Scott KCVO OBE retired as Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone on 17th June 2026. A new Lord-Lieutenant of County Tyrone is yet to be appointed. In the interim the Vice Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Francis Nolan MBE will fulfill the role of Lord Lieutenant pending the appointment of a new Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone.
Mrs Frances Nolan, MBE, appointed DL in 2005 and has served as VLL since 2020: During her service with the police in Northern Ireland she was awarded an MBE for her services to the community and, in particular, the migrant community. On her retirement after 33 years service she took up a role with the Victims Commission and subsequently with the Parades Commission. In 2013 she travelled to Myanmar in South East Asia to play a role in a community policing project funded by the EU. At the moment she is a trustee of Brooke House Health and Wellbeing Centre that provides support to military veterans and retired police who have been physically or psychologically impacted as a result of their service.
The Lord-Lieutenant’s position, much like that of the Monarch, is primarily non-political. The responsibilities are extensive and varied, but can be broadly grouped into these categories:
Hosting and attending civic and state occasions, such as the annual County Day and national celebrations.
Representing the Crown at official events and ceremonies within the county.
Promoting and supporting local organisations, charities, and community groups.
Celebrating local culture, heritage, and traditions. Fostering a sense of pride and unity within the community.
Acting as a liaison between the military and the local community.
Attending military parades, commemorations, and other related events.
Celebrating and recognising local achievements and contributions through awards and honours.
Encouraging and endorsing the work of volunteers and voluntary organisations.
Engaging with local businesses and promoting economic growth and investment in the county.
Supporting initiatives that enhance the economic vitality of the area.
Appointing roles within the lieutenancy.
The Lord Lieutenant appoints a number of Deputy Lieutenants to assist him in his duties, and is supported by a Clerk to the Lieutenancy.
